Our Mission

CITIZENS TO PROTECT RANCHO MIRAGE is an organization of City residents whose mission is to advocate for sound planning, fiscal responsibility, neighborhood involvement, and local control within Rancho Mirage. We see our mission as one of educating and informing our community.

While originally formed as advocates around the April 12th 2016 General Election our organization plans to continue to monitor and take positions on important issues facing our City including keeping an eye on CVAG and CV Link.

Update on CV Link in Rancho Mirage

We want to thank you for going to the polls and supporting a Yes Vote on Measure 1 and No Votes on Measures 2, 3, and 4. You overwhelming confirmed our position to determine our future locally and not be subjected to the power and control of the Coachella Valley Association of Governments and other political outsiders. Thanks to your vote, a new city council cannot take office and accept CV Link through our city without a public vote of Rancho Mirage residents.

In the upcoming election, CV Link supporters are aggressively and financially backing new candidates for office in a hope of forcing a new vote on CV Link in Rancho Mirage. You can hear in her own words, Kate Spate speaking about reopening discussion on CV Link in the following video clip taken at her Campaign Kick-off Event at California Bistro on January 22,2018. Ib this clip she effectively states that, ignoring the 80% of residents who voted against CV Link she would reopen the discussion if elected....



Even though the election results strongly support our positions, the issues with CVAG and their supporters are not over. CVAG has refused to amend the Master Plan for CV Link and remove the Butler Abrams Trail, Highway 111, and other routes from the Plan. CVAG and their consultants are continuing to spend taxpayer money on design studies and the Environmental Impact Report for these areas even though our City Council has prohibited using these routes by ordinance and which have been confirmed by our Yes Vote for Measure 1.

CVAG is still promoting the concept of taking $20,000,000 from Measure A tax dollars to finance a portion of the construction of CV Link. They are also proposing to use Measure A tax dollars to fund a portion of the operational costs. We STRONGLY OPPOSE the use of Measure A tax dollars in this manner. If CVAG is permitted to use Measure A funds in this manner there will be fewer dollars to use on road repairs and other street and road maintenance needs.
